About the Role
This Senior Tax Accountant (AU) role plays a key part in supporting the firm’s accounting and taxation operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely delivery of financial services to clients. You will work closely with Directors and Managers to prepare tax returns, financial statements, and business activity statements across various entity types, including individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and superannuation funds.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in Australian accounting standards and tax compliance. You’ll handle a mix of data entry, report preparation, and process coordination, ensuring smooth communication between internal teams and clients. What you’ll do
Responsible for timely completion of assigned tasks, keeping track of tasks, clear communication to other team members together with assisting Director/Managers to provide a full range of professional accounting services to clients, including:
Drafting, inputting and collating tax returns for Individuals for review by a Manager
Drafting, Inputting and collating Tax Returns for Partnerships, Companies, Trusts and Superannuation Funds for review by a Manager
Entering data for the preparation of Financial Reports for Companies, Superannuation Funds, Trusts, Partnerships and Sole Traders
Resolves all queries raised by Manager after Review
Entering data – Input forms on Xero Tax, including – Client Update Forms, Depreciation Schedules, etc
Preparing Business Activity Statements, including BAS administration
Track jobs to ensure timely delivery to clients and to Manager
An awareness of the opening time WIP and accumulation of WIP and examining the final WIP when the job is completed
Maintenance of professional standards in the communication and delivery of services including, being aware of existing legislation, current developments and ATO interpretation that may impact on work being prepared
Liaise with Manager to provide regular updates on status of work in progress and any client issues or requirements
Following the firm’s current system of work practices and when unclear on the best approach asking questions in the most appropriate manner
Perform other tasks on ad hoc basis as requested by Manager
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA certification (preferred)
3-5 years of experience in Australian accounting and taxation
Experience in IFRS and AU taxation
Experience in taxation preparation & procedural matters
Working knowledge of Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks accounting tools
Experience in XPM practice management software
A basic knowledge of BGL Corporate Register software
Working knowledge in Excel Spreadsheets and Microsoft Office Suite of Software
Preferred Qualifications:
Attention to detail and task completion orientation
A sound knowledge of Accounting Standards (relevant to special purpose financials), APES 110 Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants and other mandatory ethical pronouncements
Strong client focus and service ethic
Takes initiative and self-motivated
Ability to multi task with effective time management capabilities
Ability to work within and enhance dynamics of a team
