Position: Marketing/Social Media Intern – Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement

Who you are:
The Marketing/Social Media Intern will play a key role in strengthening CIEE’s online presence for our Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement audiences. This role is ideal for a creative, self-motivated individual with a passion for storytelling, community building, and social media marketing. The intern will help develop and execute content strategies that highlight alumni stories, donor impact, upcoming events, and opportunities to support CIEE’s mission.
What You’ll Do:
- Content Creation:
- Draft and schedule posts for CIEE Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and others as appropriate).
 - Create reels, stories, and photo/video content aligned with CIEE’s brand and style guidelines.
 - Assist with developing campaign-specific content (e.g., Giving Tuesday, Make-A-Will Month, alumni spotlights).
 
 - Community Engagement:
- Monitor channels for comments and messages; engage with followers to foster a sense of community.
 - Research trending hashtags, challenges, and alumni-related content opportunities to increase reach and engagement.
 
 - Storytelling & Campaign Support:
- Collaborate with the team, especially the Alumni Managers and Annual Fund Manager, to source alumni stories, quotes, and images.
 - Support development and implementation of social media campaigns that align with CIEE’s philanthropic initiatives.
 
 - Analytics & Reporting:
- Support a social media audit and help create an ongoing process to track post performance, engagement rates, and audience growth.
 - Prepare monthly reports to share insights and recommendations with the team.
 
 - General Support:
- Assist with brainstorming sessions, content calendars, and other projects as needed.
 
 
What you’ll bring:
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a degree program in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
 - Strong understanding of major social media platforms and trends.
 - Excellent writing and storytelling skills with attention to detail.
 - Basic graphic design or video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar tools preferred).
 - Organized, proactive, and able to meet deadlines.
 - Enthusiasm for CIEE’s mission and for connecting with alumni and donors.
 
Learning Outcomes:
The intern will gain hands-on experience in:
- Building and managing branded social media campaigns for a nonprofit organization.
 - Leveraging storytelling for donor engagement and alumni community-building.
 - Using analytics to inform content strategy and improve performance.
 - Collaborating with a cross-functional team in a mission-driven organization.
 - Gaining an understanding of philanthropy, the donor lifecycle, and how digital media drives engagement and giving.
