As a Statutory Accountant, you will assist in preparing and reviewing statutory financial statements, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support various reporting deadlines. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, analytical capabilities, and effective communication within cross-functional teams.

What you’ll do

  • Prepare and review statutory financial statements and journal entries in accordance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual statutory filings with state insurance departments and other regulatory agencies.
  • Support statutory audits and examinations, responding to inquiries and providing documentation as needed.
  • Reconcile statutory accounts and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
  • Maintain and update statutory accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor changes in statutory accounting standards and regulations and assess their impact on the company.
  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned.

  • Experience preparing statutory financial statements and regulatory filings.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel; familiarity with ERP systems, Workday is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience in statutory accounting, preferably within the insurance industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems (e.g., Workday, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).

  • This role can be worked from any U.S. remote location.
  • Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
