This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Specification Writer based in India.

This role offers the opportunity to support complex building projects through accurate, technically sound door and hardware specifications.
You will work closely with a New Zealand-based specification team while collaborating with sales professionals, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
The position combines technical documentation, construction drawing interpretation, compliance, estimation, and project support.
You will play an important role in ensuring specifications meet applicable building codes, standards, and fire regulations.
The environment is highly collaborative and international, while still providing autonomy to manage priorities and deliver work independently.

Accountabilities

  • Prepare accurate and detailed door and hardware specifications, schedules, and related project documentation.
  • Interpret construction drawings, architectural plans, project requirements, and technical information to develop appropriate specifications.
  • Ensure specifications comply with applicable building codes, New Zealand standards, fire regulations, and other relevant requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and product clarification to sales teams, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare project quotations and manage pricing in accordance with established commercial guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project information within CRM and specification systems.
  • Participate in project discussions and provide technical input to help deliver practical, compliant solutions.
  • Support sales teams with specification-related activities and contribute to non-specified discretionary projects generated through lead-generation tools.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, process improvements, and adoption of relevant technical and specification tools.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across India and New Zealand to ensure projects are delivered accurately and on schedule.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in specification writing, construction, architectural hardware, or a closely related technical field.
  • Strong understanding of door hardware, architectural products, construction processes, or related building-industry practices.
  • Ability to confidently read, interpret, and extract relevant information from construction and architectural drawings.
  • Good knowledge of building codes, standards, fire regulations, and compliance requirements, particularly within a New Zealand construction context.
  • Experience working with specification, CRM, estimation, or project-management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to different audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, compliant, high-quality documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and manage deadlines effectively in a remote environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working with geographically distributed and cross-functional teams.
  • A proactive, organized, and technically curious approach to problem-solving.
  • GAI or DHI qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, with travel expected to be approximately 0–10%.
