A Brief Overview
Reporting to the VP, Reporting & Accounting Policy, the Executive Director Technical Accounting, will be an experienced finance leader strongly positioned to lead and manage the RGA technical accounting function, ensuring consistent and timely compliance with technical accounting requirements across the organization. This role is be pivotal in the preparation and communication of RGA accounting policies based on various accounting bases including U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory Accounting Principles, IFRS, etc., and the documentation of RGA's position on large and complex transactions.
Location: The successful candidate will be ideally located at RGA's HQs in Chesterfield, Missouri in a hybrid work arrangement. For exceptional qualified candidates outside of St. Louis, RGA may consider offering relocation assistance or possibly allow a fully-remote work arrangement.
What you will do
Manages and oversees research on new accounting pronouncements and evaluates impact on RGA and its subsidiaries. Recommends compliance alternatives.
Serves as the accounting subject matter expert on certain transactions.
Leads the company-wide technical accounting function to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory and IFRS policies and procedures.
Oversee the preparation of technical accounting memos.
Develops processes, training and other materials to share new policies and to reinforce compliance with existing policies.
Serves as a contact for segment accountants and other business partners to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and other accounting bases.
Leads and provides assistance for a broad range of Finance related projects and analyses.
Manages technical accounting SharePoint site.
Candidate Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience (graduate-level degree would be an asset)
CPA certification
Minimum of 10 years accounting or auditing experience with experience dealing with auditors
5+ years management experience
5+ years insurance/reinsurance accounting experience at an advanced and competent level would be a highly desired asset
Basic Word, intermediate Excel and SQL/Query skills
Advanced knowledge of broad business practices
Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies
Expert knowledge of accounting/finance, including GAAP, statutory and SEC requirements and expert ability to define and apply accounting guidelines
Highly advanced verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received
Highly advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines
Highly advanced level of investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
Expert ability to analyze and improve business processes
Expert ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives
Advanced skills in customer relationship management and change management including advanced persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers
Highly advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions
Highly advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously
Highly advanced level of people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility

Compensation Range:
$123,500.00 - $184,050.00 AnnualBase pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
