As our Director of Software Development, you'll lead the technical innovation behind our industry-leading imaging solutions, AI-powered clinical platforms, and precision medicine technologies that are setting new standards in GI research. In this role you will shape the future of gastroenterology research technology while leading engineering teams to build solutions that directly impact the development of treatments for IBD, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and other GI conditions.
Purpose:
As Director (or Senior Director) of Software Development at Alimentiv, you will serve as the strategic technology leader responsible for transforming how clinical research is conducted through advanced technology solutions. Reporting directly to the Chief Digital & Technology Officer, you will own the technical vision and execution of our clinical platforms and imaging technologies that accelerate the development of life-changing treatments for IBD and other GI conditions. In this role you will translate complex challenges into scalable, compliant technology solutions while building and leading the software engineering organization that delivers mission-critical software for our global clinical trials. Your leadership will directly impact our ability to provide faster, more accurate clinical endpoints, ultimately helping bring breakthrough GI therapies to patients worldwide more efficiently than ever before.
Responsibilities
- Define technical vision, architecture and roadmap for clinical platforms, AI solutions, and data systems.
- Architect enterprise-grade, cloud-native solutions maintaining GxP compliance and regulatory standards.
- Utilize software development standards, quality protocols, testing automation, and CI/CD pipelines for rapid, safe delivery.
- Oversee technology stack selection, infrastructure choices, and integration strategies.
- Develop partnerships, oversee and drive development of solutions for clinical research, including AI/ML models and computer vision platforms.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to identify technology opportunities that differentiate services and improve trial efficiency.
- Lead development of imaging and clinical services solutions.
- Partner with product management to translate business requirements into compliant technical specifications and solutions.
- Build and mentor high-performing software engineering teams delivering mission-critical clinical software.
- Recruit top engineering talent across software development, AI/ML, and data engineering.
- Establish engineering culture, processes, and career pathways promoting technical excellence.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration and provide hands-on technical leadership.
- Align technology initiatives with business objectives and clinical research goals.
- Manage development budgets, resources, and timelines for successful project delivery.
- Communicate technical concepts to executive leadership and clinical partners.
- Establish KPIs for development velocity, quality, and customer satisfaction.

The Technical Landscape & Architecture
- You'll design and implement:
Enterprise Application Architecture: Build scalable, cloud-native architectures that can process and analyze clinical trial data while maintaining high performance, reliability, and elegant user experience.
Integration and Data Architecture: Design and implement an integration architecture that enables secure and compliant data integration between systems.
Speed & Agility: Establish engineering practices that enable frequent deployments of clinical software in regulated environments through automated validation, comprehensive testing strategies, and progressive rollout mechanisms.
You bring
- Technical Leadership: 10+ years leading enterprise software development with deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, serverless), and modern development practices (DevOps, GitOps, infrastructure as code). You've built scalable, high performant systems that recognize the importance of a strong user interface and experience.
- AI/ML Implementation: Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning systems in production. You understand MLOps, model governance, and the unique challenges of AI in regulated industries. Bonus points for experience with clinical AI applications or healthcare data science.
- Rapid Delivery Expertise: Proven track record of implementing engineering practices that dramatically increase development velocity while maintaining quality. You've transformed traditional waterfall organizations into agile, customer-focused teams that ship value continuously.
- Domain Expertise: Background in life sciences, clinical research, or CRO environments, with strong preference for experience in medical imaging, gastroenterology research, or healthcare AI applications. You understand the unique challenges of regulated medical software development, the critical importance of imaging data integrity in clinical research, and how to balance innovation with compliance requirements in precision medicine applications.
- Customer-Obsessed Mindset: Experience building customer-facing medical software products with demonstrated ability to translate clinical researcher needs into technical requirements. You've worked closely with product teams to prioritize features based on patient impact, clinical utility, and business value in healthcare or life sciences environments.
- People Leadership: Track record of building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams, with the ability to attract top talent and foster a culture of technical excellence.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
$144,000 - $239,500 a year
+ bonus
